Daniel L. Schaaf
President/Executive Director Daniel and his wife, Erin, live in Moscow, Idaho. They are teachers and outdoor enthusiasts, enjoying hiking, rock climbing, nordic skiing, fishing, and gardening in beautiful, scenic Idaho. Some of Daniel’s fondest memories are sharing time with his family in the Appalachian mountains of north Georgia and learning about exotic animals from his father at Zoo Atlanta. Daniel received a master’s degree from the University of Idaho in natural resources, and is a strong advocate for environmental protection and education so that future generations can continue to be stewards of our natural places. |

Cherie L. Schaaf
Secretary/Treasurer Cherie has taught science for over 20 years and currently lives in Madison, WI, where she teaches high school and owns an education company. Earlier in her career she worked as both an interpretive naturalist and laboratory research technician. Her college degree in Conservation Education allowed her to meet Dietrich in ornithology class in 1971. After marrying in Kathmandu, Nepal in 1974, she assisted Dietrich with his doctoral research on endangered swamp deer in Nepal’s remote Sukla Phanta Wildlife Sanctuary. There, she and Dietrich lived for over two years in a grass-thatched house without modern amenities. She is inspired by Dietrich’s intense interest and passion in the natural world to support grassroots, environmental causes. |
